Who to call if you see a bear in your neighborhood

Police are letting the public know what to do if they see a bear.  OPP responded to 11 bear complaints in the West Parry Sound region this past weekend and remind everyone that just the sight of a bear doesn’t mean it’s a threat to public safety. Bears have also been reported by the public in the Bracebridge area too. The OPP ask that people only call 9-1-1 if there is an immediate threat to human safety and then an officer will come to the location and assess the situation.  If a bear is observed roaming around your property, landowners should call the Ministry of Natural Resources’ Bear Wise hotline (1-866-514-2327) to get information on how to make their property less attractive to problem bears.  For more information on Bear Wise visit www.Ontario.ca/bearwise.
