Local business owners closing up shop over the winter due to high Hydro bills

A $200,000 renovation to limit heat loss isn’t helping local business owners save on Hydro. The owners of the Northridge Inn on Lake Bernard in Sundridge did the renovations last year, but were still hit with a $14,000 monthly hydro bill, which means the inn will have to close next winter and around 40 staff members will be laid off.

Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norm Miller says the business owners did everything right, and were still facing huge bills. He says the Wynne government needs to start addressing the root cause of high Hydro bills.

Miller says there are already not a lot of jobs in the area over the winter, and if businesses are forced to shut down it could be devastating to the local economy.
