Keep your pets in mind when preparing an emergency plan this spring

As a flood warning stays in effect for the Muskoka Watershed, it might be time to think about your pets. The Ontario SPCA says it’s good practice to make plans for your animals before an emergency happens, which could save their lives.

The first step is to create an emergency response plan; have a meeting point away from your home in case of evacuation, and make sure your family and vet know where to find your pets. The SPCA says to also keep your pets in mind when building an emergency kit for your family. Pack things like food, a leash, and a collar.

On top of that, you can get a rescue alert sticker for your front door, which will let first responders know what kind of animals are inside in case you have to evacuate and can’t take them with you.
