Feeding bears now illegal in Lake of Bays

Lake of Bays Township has passed a new bylaw about not feeding bears. Building Official and Bylaw Enforcement Officer Mike Wilmon says the town has received numerous complaints this summer.

This bylaw came into effect on Tuesday, July 15th 2014. Wilson says residents need to make sure bears don’t have easy access to any attractants like bird feed, garbage or barbecue grease. There are consequences if you’re caught feeding bears. Wilmon says if it’s your first offence, bylaw officers will let you go with a warning.

If you repeat the offence, however, Wilson says the town could file a summons.
