A new Bracebridge bylaw aimed at protecting people from dishonest taxi drivers has been passed. It means taxi owners must now seal the meters of their cars so drivers can’t tamper with them and increase charges to customers. Chief Bylaw Enforcement Officer Scott Stakiw says his department’s received one complaint in the last year where a driver may have potentially overcharged a customer in this manner. He says it’s not a burning issue and that these types of bylaws are a way to provide more checks and balances to help customers.
