An Etobicoke man has been charged in the death of a child in Bracebridge.

On Friday afternoon, police were called to the Muskoka River near High Falls Roads where a canoe had overturned in the water.

The 37-year-old man and the eight-year-old boy were both thrown into the river.

Police say the boy had been wearing a life jacket, but had gone over the falls.

When police found the boy they pulled him from the water and gave him CPR.

He was taken to hospital, but died from his injuries.
