High speed Internet, water health, and homelessness on Lake of Bays council agenda

Fibre optic Internet may be on the way to Lake of Bays. Lakeland Holding is applying for some cash from the federal government to install a fibre-op line through the township. Council is looking at the pitch tomorrow to decide if they will support it or not. The feds are investing $500 million to get high speed internet into rural communities, like Lake of Bays.

An update on the health of lakes in Muskoka is also on the way. District of Muskoka staff will be at tomorrow’s meeting to go over their 2016 results on monitoring water quality. That means looking at things like chemicals in the water and the temperature of the many different lakes.

Also on tomorrow’s council agenda is the 2017 plan to tackle homelessness in the area, an update on the Dorset Tower rehab project, and a report from the OPP on a speeding issue on Muskoka Road 117 at Bay Street.

The meeting starts at 9:00am in Lake of Bays, and is open to the public. The full agenda is available online.
