The most active part of flu season is approaching and the SMDHU wants you to be prepared

As we move into the most active time during flu season the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit wants you to be prepared.
Officials say in about one to four weeks, we’re going to see the highest amount of flu activity in the region.
Doctor Colin Lee says the flu shot is the best option before we start to see the virus spreading quickly between February and April.
He says the shot will help prevent the spread of this strain, which is expected to cause more severe illness as compared to the strain last year.
You should also always make sure to wash your hands often if you’re in an environment like work or school where the virus can be easily spread.
If you are experiencing some strong flu symptoms like difficulty breathing, heavy vomiting or you have a fever over 100.4 Fahrenheit, officials say it’s best to visit the emergency room.
However, if your symptoms are more mild, you should consider visiting your doctor or a walk-in clinic instead to ease congestion on the emergency rooms.
