Honey Harbour school closure discussions move into District of Muskoka Council

The District of Muskoka council will consider supporting a call for action from Georgian Bay council.
In November, Georgian Bay Council sent a request to the Minister of Education to start an investigation into the effect of school closures in rural communities.
Council also sent a request to Trillium Lakelands District School Board and the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board to consider bringing both schools together in one building.
This would be an alternative to closing Honey Harbour Public School and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School.
Following a recent board meeting, TLDSB officials stated the student population wasn’t high enough in the area to consider bringing the two schools together.
District Council will discuss a motion to support this initiative during the meeting tonight starting at 7:00pm.
