It is now illegal to hunt wolves and coyotes in a number of spots in Ontario

Ontario is closing the hunting and trapping season of all wolves and coyotes in the Algonquin Provincial Park. It is now illegal to hunt the canines in the park, along with the Kawartha Highlands Park, Killarney Provincial Park, and the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Park.

The province is trying to protect the Algonquin Wolf, which is classified as threatened. Officials are working on a long-term recovery plan for the threatened wolf, and will be looking for input from the public.

Hunters are able to trap the animals in non-protected areas of the province, and homeowners can kill a wolf or coyote is there is an immediate risk to their safety, or to their pets and livestock.
