French school board considers Muskoka region for new elementary school

A northern school board is responding to interest in a French-language elementary school in Muskoka.
Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario based in North Bay has received some requests from the area to offer a French-language curriculum.
Spokesperson Guylaine Sherer says they will be meeting with parents and stakeholders in various communities over the next few weeks.
There has been interest expressed in Parry Sound as well, so Sherer says they are currently considering one school to cover the entire region.
Sherer says at that point they will make a decision on the best option to cover the needs for families wanting access to a French-speaking school in the region.
She says the board has an obligation to look into these requests and gauge the amount of interest from local families.
The board currently offers French-language education to North Bay, Timmins, Hearst, Kapuskasing, Sturgeon Falls, Temiskaming Shores and Iroquis Falls.
Here is a list of  when and where the consultations will take place across Muskoka:
  • Huntsville, Robinson’s Independent Grocer, November 14th, 7:00pm to 9:00pm
  • Gravenhurst, Gravenhurst Centennial Centre, November 15th, 7:00pm to 9:00pm
  • Bracebridge, Gagnon’s YIG, November 28th, 7:00pm to 9:00pm
