BIA members want to keep street events downtown in Bracebridge

A majority of members with the Bracebridge BIA are voting for downtown events to stay downtown.
On Tuesday night, members came together to address a concern from a few business owners about street closures affecting sales during these events.
BIA Administrative Coordinator Tracy Larkman says this was a good example of the democratic set up of the organization.
A petition circulated to businesses within the BIA showed about a dozen owners had concerns about the amount of street closures during the summer.
However, most of the business owners at the meeting praised both the summer and winter events for sales and the community connection.
A few members stated that while sales might not be high with a few of these events, it still brings attention to their stores.
The BIA recently came to the decision to move SantaFest to Wharf Road based on opinion from the members.
There was some discussion about moving the Father’s Day Car Show to Wharf Road as well.
However, that will need to be further discussed by the board before any decisions are made.
