Bracebridge may soon be home to a medical marijuana production facility.
During the last Planning and Development Committee meeting, council approved the site plan application for the 30,000-square-foot, two-storey building that would house the facility.
Mayor Graydon Smith says the construction of the building itself and the ongoing industry would be of big benefit to the Bracebridge economy.
Smith says with changes coming to the regulation and sale of medical marijunana, this industry could continue to grow and thrive in Bracebridge.
Medical Marijuana production facilities do need license approval from the Federal Government as well as the site plan approval from the municipality.
The decision for site approval still needs to be ratified as well during the next official council meeting.
Manager of Planning and Development Matt Holmes says as long as everything checks out construction could begin as soon as this fall.
