Years of memories turn to ashes after a marina burns down in Muskoka

A cottager on Skeleton Lake is feeling the loss after the Troy Cove Marina burned to the ground earlier this week.

Bryce Davidson’s family has been on the lake forĀ four generations.Ā HeĀ says the over 60-year-old marina had a lot of memories attached to it.

Davidson was one of the first to call 9-1-1 when he woke up to what he describes as the sound of fireworks.Ā When he first saw the flames, Davidson says he knew instantly there was no saving the building.

Davidson describes the propertyĀ as a ‘Mom and Pop’ type Marina.Ā He says the owners were on the edge of retirementĀ and the night of the fire the husband was outside the building watching firefighters try to put out the flames.

Davidson says the small community of cottagers are all feeling the same loss now as most have had generations of families grow up with the Marina in their lives.Ā He hopes the Marina will be rebuilt and keep the same ‘Mom and Pop’ feel that made it so special to the Skeleton Lake cottagers in the first place.

Muskoka Lakes Fire reported the calls came in sometime after 2:00am on Wednesday morning.

Fire officials sayĀ the cause of the fire was due to a generator being too close to the building.
