As we get deeper into the summer season, the OSPCA wants pet owners to not do it at all. Investigation and Communication Officer Brad Dewar says they get more calls this time of year.

Depending on the case you can be charged with either a fine or up to two years in jail, $60,000 fine and a lifetime ban from owning any animals.

Leaving your pet in the car is a bad idea, especially in the summer. Dewar says pets don’t sweat the way we do.

The OSPCA wants you to help find anyone leaving their pets in cars unattended. Investigation and Communication Officer Brad Dewar says they’ve set up a new centralized dispatch you can call.

When you call, you will need to provide them with the licence plate number, make and model of the vehicle and where it’s located.
