Don’t call 9-1-1 to report the use of fireworks during a ban.
This is the message Bracebridge OPP is sending out to residents.
Officers say, even if a fireworks ban is in place, the use of fireworks is not illegal.
Fire officials do have the ability to fine someone using fireworks during a ban, but it is not an arrestable offense.
Officers suggest 9-1-1 only for usage in emergencies where someone’s life is threatened or if a crime is in progress.
If you call 9-1-1 for a non-emergency, you could be holding up the line for someone who is in a life-threatening situation.
