Bracebridge considering allowing chickens on urban residential properties

The Town of Bracebridge is looking into amending a bylaw that prevents residents from keeping laying hens on a property in the urban community.
Following up on a letter sent to the town requesting the amendment, Mayor Graydon Smith put the resolution forward to have town staff put together an option that would allow chickens on urban properties.
Town staff has put together an amendment that would allow up to 10 laying hens on a property that is no less than one acre of land in the urban area.
This amendment will come forward to council during their next meeting to be discussed.
Bracebridge staff says if the resolution is passed by council during its meeting next Wednesday, it will be added to the Zoning By-Law review.
