Bracebridge prepares for an August kickoff for new public transit

The Town of Bracebridge is hoping to roll out its new transit service in late August.

Last week, General Committee agreed to award the contract to run the transit service to Hammond Transportation.

The town will be purchasing its own bus and leasing it Hammond to use for the service.

These details still need to have a final approval by council, which meets on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, an RFP has been released to offer a sister accessible public transit service, which is mandated by legislature when offering regular public transit.

According to town officials, this service would offer more accessibility to residents in Bracebridge than just the standard bus route, with a vehicle designed specifically for a variety of special needs transportation.

The new public transit has a tentative date of August 29th to start in Bracebridge.
