NSM LHIN approves creation of council to create Muskoka healthcare model

The North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network is taking an entirely new step forward in transforming the healthcare model in Muskoka.

NSM LHIN is creating the Muskoka and Area Health System Transformation Council.

The organization will be looking to this council to bring together a comprehensive strategic model to deal with the hospital services in Muskoka along with integrating other service like mental health, addiction services, community services and home care.

The council will be expected to deliver a final recommendation on the best model for healthcare in the Muskoka area.

Rick Williams with the District of Muskoka is applauding this move citing this as an example of the community coming together to achieve greater goals.

NSM LHIN CEO Jill Tettmann says once this comprehensive model is completed, it could be implemented in other communities within the North Simcoe Muskoka region.

The council will be made up of an appointed Chair and Co-Chair as well as six Executive Committee members and eleven local and regional experts.

This new MAHST Council is expected to begin meeting in August.
