A police officer has been assaulted after a rash of incidents in Huntsville.
Early yesterday morning a home was broken into on Main Street West. A man stole a set of pickup truck keys, drove off with the vehicle and later smashed it into a tree. Shortly after, the same man was seen breaking into a home on Ferguson Road.
When police attempted to arrest the man, he assaulted an officer. The man then drove off in the police vehicle and put it into a ditch causing damages.
Police say the 26-year-old showed signs of impaired driving.
The investigation continues as police expect to lay more charges.
