Wildlife experts say if you see a rattle snake in Muskoka leave it alone

Wildlife officials say if you find a dangerous snake in your yard, just avoid it and let it go on its way.

Recently, a Bracebridge man discovered a Massasauga Rattlesnake in his yard and posted to the Facebook group ‘Let’s Make Bracebridge Great Again’ looking for suggestions on what action to take after spotting the snake.

Officials with the MNR suggest leaving it alone as the snake will not bite a human unless picked up or agitated.

According to details, these snakes are more likely to try to move away from people rather than become aggressive.

If you see this species of snake you can contact the MNR so they can track the animal, which is considered at risk in Ontario.

Trapping or killing a Massasauga Rattlesnake could result in a fine.

According to details, there have not been any deaths related to a Massasauga Rattlesnake in Ontario in the past 50 years and there are only a few bites reported each year for the Parry Sound Muskoka region.

If you are bitten by this snake you should contact poison control immediately.
