Town officials dedicated A.P. Cockburn Square on Muskoka Wharf

The Muskoka Wharf in Gravenhurst went through a temporary time warp to celebrate a local historical figure.

On Wednesday, historical enthusiasts dressed up in early 20th century clothing to celebrate the dedication of a wharf portion to A.P. Cockburn.

It was 150 years ago during this month that Cockburn helped launch the first steamship in Muskoka.

Co-Chair of the Cockburn Committee Mary Storey says the dedication ceremony couldn’t have gone better.

Storey adds they are now planning on approaching the town to name the Civic Holiday in August after Cockburn.

Following the ceremony, town officials, Muskoka dignitaries and others all raised a bottle of Muskoka Dry to toast the dedication of A.P. Cockburn Square.
