Students at Huntsville Public have a better understanding about Canada’s accomplishments in Afghanistan. Friday was the National Day of Honour to mark the end of the Afghan mission. The school hosted an assembly where two soldiers spoke about their experiences. Many students were grateful to learn about the mission and have this day of honour.

Master Corporal Kirk Backer, from Sundridge, also spoke at the school assembly. He says going to schools to teach students about our country’s role in Afghanistan is really important.

Backer says the good done included buying new books for Afghan students, a new playground and building fences around schools to make it safe for students to play.
Honouring Canada’s role in Afghanistan meant a lot to a solider who was born and raised right here in Huntsville. Sergeant Donny LeBlanc says the mission took a big of a soldier’s life.
