You can help collect data on a local bay on Georgian Bay

Volunteers are needed to help test water quality in bays along Georgian Bay.

For the past two years, with the support of Environment Canada, The Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve’s Coordinated Nutrient Monitoring Program has reviewed past nutrient monitoring efforts and developed a new set of guidelines and recommendations.

Bev Clark is a retired aquatic scientist and says that stresses on lakes and bay other than phosphorus can cause algal blooms such as climate change, invasive species and long-range transport of chemicals.

Clark says this initiative is to gain more data for why algal blooms develop in low-phosphorus areas.
