Vankougnet ready to kick off 7th annual Lemon Races this weekend

There’s nothing sour about the Lemon Races in Vankoughnet this weekend.
The 7th annual event runs on Saturday in Oakley Ward and is helping raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Councillor Barb McMurray says this event has a special place in her heart.
McMurray says last year they sold 500 lemons to race, which were provided by Northern Produce in Bracebridge.
Each lemon is purchased for $2 and then thrown into Black River to race from McCutcheon Bridge to Peterson Bridge.
She says afterwards, the lemons will be pulled out of the river and squeezed to make lemonade for everyone.
The lemons will be dropped in the river at 11:00am.
Before the race starts there will be a pitch-in clean up for the community starting at 9:00am.
Bags will be provided, but everyone is asked to wear boots and gloves.
