After just one year, a teen kayaker from Parry Sound has her sights set high

A kayaking teen from Parry Sound has trained with Olympic paddlers.

Audrey-Anna Colson is a 15-year-old kayak athlete with the Parry Sound Canoe Club who was selected to attend the provincially run training camp for Olympic Sprint Canoe and Kayak after her first year in the sport.

Colson says the three-week camp was a great way to improve and meet new friends.

She was at the camp in Tampa, Florida during her three-week March break from Rosseau Lake college and says the training was intense, she learned a lot that she can bring back to the Parry Sound club.

There were a total of forty athletes from across Ontario whom attended the camp and Auddie was the only athlete selected from northern Ontario.  She says she now has a couple goals in mind.

Invitations to this camp are only given after provincial staff have spent time scouting the athletes, the staff have consulted with the club coach, and the athlete submits an application which is reviewed by a selection panel.

Auddie is the second athlete in the last three years to be selected from the Parry Sound Canoe Club for this prestigious training camp as Charlotte Little was selected in 2013 and 2014.
