Water levels may continue to increase in South Muskoka

Despite a decline in water levels in Muskoka, a flood warning is remaining in effect this week for the Muskoka River watershed.

Officials with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry expect to see water levels begin to drop in Huntsville and Lake of Bays.

However, they believe with a heavy snowfall in the near future and nearly 50mm of water still in the snowpack east of Huntsville, high levels in bodies of water on the North and South portion of Muskoka River and in the Bala area will continue to increase.

Officials are warning residents in these areas to stay away from rivers and be cautious around other bodies of water.

This flood warning is expected to last until the end of the week.
