Bracebridge receiving inquiries over medical marijuana production plant

There are a few interested parties looking to open a medical marijuana production plant in Bracebridge.

This report comes from the economic development department, which has received numerous inquiries concerning the process.

Manager of Economic Development Randy Mattice says there is a lot of red tape when applying for a license to produce medical marijuana.

Mattice says prospective producers are screened heavily as well.

He adds if a facility were to open in Bracebridge, it would be considered industrial and agricultural and would have to be built in the industrial-zoned sections of the town.

Mattice says a plant in Bracebridge would offer a number of year-round job opportunities.

According to the Financial Post, there are now 26 licensed medical marijuana producers in Canada.
