Bracebridge OPP rescue stranded boaters in Bala

Bracebridge OPP had to rescue some stranded boaters in Bala recently. On Friday, police were called to the Moon River and rescued boaters who had their boat overflow with water due to the strong current. At 2pm two males set out on the river with their 12 foot aluminum boat to explore the water. They travelled near fast moving water and were unable to handle the strong current. The boat began to take on water and the boat capsized. The boaters had to swim to shore with the assistance of life jackets they were wearing at the time. They were stranded in an isolated location on shore West of Kimberly Island. The OPP Marine Unit’s found them and took them back to their residence. Luckily, they didn’t suffer injuries and their boat was recovered. OPP remind that spring can be dangerous on the water. You are encouraged to pay attending to changing water conditions.
