Spring bear hunt expanded across Ontario

The province is expanding its spring bear hunt pilot program to gather more information and gauge the plan’s impact.

Thanks to feedback from the hunting community, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says the hunt will now run through 2020.

The pilot program involves all 88 wildlife management units that currently hold a spring bear hunt in Ontario including the ones in Parry Sound and Muskoka.

The MNRF warns that just because the program is being extended, rules and regulations are still in place.

Some offences can rack up to $25,000 in fines.
