Anglers will be able to fish on Lake Joseph during Family Fishing Weekend.
In the past, no fishing was permitted from January 1st to February 14th, but with the early dates for Family Day Weekend, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has amended the dates to allow fishing during the Family Fishing Weekend.
Fishing on Lake Joseph can begin on February 13, instead of the traditional date of February 15, and all Canadians can fish licence-free during Family Fishing Weekend, Saturday through to Monday.
Fishing limits are still in effect and anglers fishing without a licence during Family Fishing Weekend must follow Conservation Limits.
The MNRF says the change in the sanctuary date is not expected to have a significant impact on the lake trout fishery.
