BREAKING: Police officer dead following collapse during K9 Unit training

A Thunder Bay Police Service officer has died following a K9 training incident this morning. Central Region OPP Constable Peter Leon says he was rushed to South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge around 10:45. Leon says the K9 Unit officer collapsed in medical distress during training involving a K9 Track on Loon Lake Road in Gravenhurst. A post mortem is planned to determine the actual cause of death. Right now, it is being called a health related matter. The Ministry of Labour has been notified and is also investigating. Police have not released the officer’s name.
