Highway 69 still closed as police investigate fatal crash

Police continue to investigate a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 69.

Last night around 9:20pm, West Parry Sound OPP along with Carling and Britt and Area Fire departments and EMS were called to a four-vehicle crash north of Harris Lake Road.

Officers say a tractor trailer hauling cattle was travelling south when it hit the blade of a northbound snow plow and then hit a northbound minivan.

The tractor trailer then continued south and hit head on with another tractor trailer hauling vehicles and both ended up on fire and stopping into a rock cut.

The plow driver and the driver of the tractor trailer hauling vehicles were uninjured while all five people in the minivan suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer hauling livestock was pronounced dead at the scene and the identity of the driver has not been confirmed.

Britt and Area Fire Captain Ken Breadner says their tanker truck suffered major damage when it hit and killed a cow and one firefighter was injured after being hit by a cow.

Breadner says many cattle had to be put down after injuries from the crash.

Investigators are currently processing the scene and the road remains closed as crews clean up.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation and more information will come once it becomes available.
