Nippissing University Muskoka campus closes following faculty strike

Students attending the Muskoka campus of Nippissing University won’t have any classes to attend today.

Following a break down in weekend negotiations, full-time faculty with Nippissing University is officially on strike as of 12:01 a.m. Monday morning.

The university has shut down programs on its man campus as well as in Muskoka and Brantford.

President and vice-chancellor of the university Dr. Mike DeGagné says he was disappointed in the faculty choice to turn down the university’s offer.

“We feel that our offer is fair, and we are disappointed that the faculty has chosen to reject it.  As a public sector employer, dependent on government grants and tuition for revenue, the university must demonstrate fiscal responsibility,” says DeGagné.  “The university remains committed to reaching an agreement with our faculty that is fair and reasonable. We hope that our students will be back in class very soon.”
