Memorial award remembers dead former player

The GMHL is paying respect to a fallen former player with a new award.
Following the death of former South Muskoka Shield player Jonathan Adams, the league has named its Best Defensive Forward award the Jon Adams Award.
The award was originally named after former player Naz Marchese but he requested it be changed to be named after Adams.
CBC reports that the body of 26-year-old Adams was found in a wooded lot in Newmarket on July 9, and investigators are not treating his death as suspicious.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at the Thompson Funeral Home chapel in Aurora.
