Huntsville updates flood plans

The Town of Huntsville has plans in place in case of spring flooding. Inspired by last year’s flood, the town has made significant changes to their plan so residents can be better prepared for spring flooding. Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Chief Steve Hernen says one of the things they’ve changed involves Ontario Hydro.

The town’s Property Standards Bylaw was amended as well.

There are many factors that can cause spring flooding and temperatures have a lot to do with it. Hernen says what happens at night is key to spring thaw.

Last April’s flood forced many residents out of their homes and sent the fire department on several missions to rescue home owners who were stranded. Hernen says he hopes to have a gentle run-off this year.
