Smoking ban enforced over long weekend

With warm temperatures arriving and the sun getting ready to shine for the long weekend. Many Muskoka residents and visitors will be trying their best to get out on the several patios in the Muskoka region.

Some choose being on a patio because it is easier to have a cigarette or cigar while having a cold beverage or a meal.

But, this year – there have been some changes.

There has been a new smoking ban enforced by the province to patios in Ontario, as well as playgrounds and sporting areas.

The ban is to help eliminate the chances of second-hand smoke. For children, breast-feeding mothers, and for non-smokers.

Martin Kuhn, is supervisor of the tobacco enforcement program with the Simcoe/Muskoka District Health Unit. He explains how this new ban is enforced and what everyone can do to help.

Kuhn, reminds everyone for the long weekend to be courteous to others while on a patio. Be aware of who is around and be respectful.
