Homeowners warned to prepare for power outages

The town of Gravenhurst wants homeowners to be prepared when it comes to power outages. Community Emergency Management Co-ordinator, Candace Thwaites says while losing power for a few hours isn’t so bad, we should all have a plan to deal with long term outages. Thwaites says if your house was built after 1990 you should have electrically powered smoke alarms on every level of your home. You should also have smoke alarms outside every sleeping area. If you haven’t replaced your smoke alarms that are ten years or older with smoke alarms that have a battery backup you’re not protected against a fire emergency.
