HHS makes good impression at Ontario Skills Qualifying competition

A Huntsville High School (HHS) culinary student has won first place at the Ontario Skills Qualifying Culinary Arts Competition. Caitlyn Gill is in grade 11. Gill either met or exceeded the specific requirements for completing a menu in a specific time frame and impressed the judges with her food prep and presentation. Gill will now move on to the next level of competition on Tuesday, May 5 in Waterloo.

Meanwhile, Matt Primmer and Tyler Young competed in the Welding Qualifying competition. Primmer finished second and Young had gone forward on a wildcard as the highest placed runner up. Both will represent HHS and the Trillium Lakelands District School Board in the next level of competition. They will be given a task that is equivalent to a college level evaluation and will have to complete that task with no help.

This is the first year HHS has entered into the culinary portion of the competition and the first time there will be two reps in the welding. The competitions occurred on  Saturday, April 18, 2015.
