High water levels reported in Huntsville

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) has advised the town of Huntsville that water levels along the Big East River are rising. The MNRF says levels will continue to rise in the flood prone areas over the next few days.

Things to be aware of:

• Residents living in flood prone areas (Rivercove, Old North Road, Bridgeview and Glen Acres) should take precautionary measures to protect property as water levels continue to increase.

• The river course through the downtown core has seen a sustained high water flow for several days and with the restriction caused by the Town Bridge, the levels in this area will continue to rise. Businesses and residents located in this area should take action to protect their property.

• Residents living towards the lower end of Glen Acres Road as well as residents on Vernon Shores may also be impacted as water levels increase over the next 72 hours.

• Parents and guardians are advised to remind children to stay clear of open water, creeks and rivers.
