TLDSB faces funding challenges for the 2015/2016 school year

The Trillium District School Board will be going through funding changes after this years Grants for Student Needs (GSN) was released. The GSN is the time of year when the Ministry of Education releases estimates of what funding the district will get for the upcoming year. Director of Education Larry Hope says they are losing 600 students across the district next year, which means fewer teachers.

Hope says he anticipates they will take advantage of upcoming retirements to meet their financial targets. There is going to be significant changes to a number of budgets. Hope says this includes the Special Education programs.

Hope says the school board has also traditionally relied on top up grants that supports schools that are not at 100 per cent capacity.

Hope says at this point these changes are just projections. The school board will have a more concrete idea on what’s happening with student enrollment and funding closer to the beginning of the 2015/2016 school year.
