Plans move ahead to join Fenbrook and Beaver Creek Institutions in Gravenhurst

Plans are moving ahead to join Fenbrook and Beaver Creek Institutions in
Gravenhurst. On April 1st, Correctional Services Canada (CSC) says both prisons
will come together under one Warden. The joining is an answer to the 2012
Federal Budget and overall operating plan which aims to reduce costs. CSC denied
the Moose’s request for an interview about suggestions they were to begin
housing maximum security level prisoners in Gravenhurst. Instead, they told us
via email that construction of a 96-bed medium-security unit at Fenbrook is
anticipated to be ready this summer, while 50 new minimum-security beds will be
added to Beaver Creek this fall. CSC is also currently building three
administrative buildings at Fenbrook and Beaver Creek, which could be completed
by summer 2014.
