Cottages becoming out of reach for many

A second home study by the District of Muskoka shows cottages are becoming out of reach for a large part of our population. 70 percent of second home households here are earning more than $100,000 a year, up from 2004 when only 56 percent of cottagers earned as much. In a 2010 National Household Survey, just 22 percent of Muskoka’s permanent households were in that bracket. This year’s survey was mailed to 21,000 homeowners and got 5,255 responses.
