District Councillors could get boat mileage covered for travel to meetings

District councilors getting paid to go to meetings by boat could become a reality. Since travel is only possible by boat between June and October and there are 10 District meetings during that time, a District report says the cost for the boat travel would be roughly $620 per year for councilors who use that form of travel. That’s based on $2.58 per km, which is six times the mileage rate currently paid to councilors who travel to the meetings by car. This would only take effect if District Council allows boat travel to be included in its current councillor remuneration bylaw.
