OFAH claims white-tail deer are starving

This year’s long and harsh winter is causing problems for white-tail deer. The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters says a provincial emergency feeding plan may be needed if winter continues well into March. Senior Wildlife Biologist, Mark Ryckman has more.

However, when speaking with the Ministry of Natural Resources, spokesperson Jolanta Kowalski says the deer population isn’t in jeopardy just yet. Kowalski recommends people avoid feeding deer because they become dependent on it and it may damage their health. Both Kowalski and Ryckman agree that breaking trails with snowmobiles or heavy equipment makes it easier for deer to access their natural feed.
