Fire causes $3 million in damages at Township of Muskoka Lakes Public Works garage

The Fire Marshall will be on site today in Glen Orchard where a Township of Muskoka Lakes public works yard mechanical garage went up in flames. The cause is yet to be determined, but fire crews got the call at 5:45pm yesterday and when they arrived the blaze was already spreading. Fire Chief Richard Hayes tells Moose FM that the structure of the building is still intact, but that flames tore up through the attic. Its being considered a large loss. The site is where some of the Township’s fleet of trucks get serviced and the damage estimate includes equipment loss as well as damage to the building. Firefighters finally wrestled the blaze under control around 1am, but a skeleton crew stayed on throughout the night and remain there now. There were no injuries to report – Hayes says the building was unoccupied at the time.
