Controversial bear killing case adjourned until April

A case about a controversial bear killing has been adjourned until April 4th. On November 3rd, a 41-year-old man was driving when he hit a bear with his car on Bethune Drive in Gravenhurst. He allegedly stopped his car to grab a rock and repeatedly beat the bear over the head. When questioned, he said he was trying to put it out of its misery. The Ministry of Natural Resources investigated and didn’t lay charges. Instead, the man was charged under the Ontario SPCA Act for causing distress to an animal. The community has been following the case with intense interest.
