Elementary teachers in the Near North District School Board will not be getting paid on Friday. The deal with the Ontario Government called for all teachers to have two unpaid days off this school year. Near North Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario Local President Dave Bartlett explains why our elementary teachers won’t be at workon Friday.

Bartlett says the Near North and the Ontario North East are the only two northern Ontario boards not paying their elementary teachers the day before March Break. He mentions that our district’s school board was aware of what other school boards were doing to make it a paid day for their elementary teachers, but chose not to. Secondary teachers in the NNDSB will be at school for professional development and will be paid.
