Bracebridge supports Scout/Guide Week with flag raising

This morning the Town of Bracebridge recognized the great work done by the local scouting community. At 10am, a flag raising ceremony happened at Town hall. About 20-30 area scouting leaders and youth attended – it was all in recognition of scout/guide week, which started yesterday and runs until next Sunday.

February is also a special month for Scouts and Girl Guides worldwide. Each year, both Movements celebrate February 22nd, the birthday of Scouts founder, Lord Robert Baden-Powell and his wife, the World Chief Guide, Lady Olave Baden-Powell. For the past four decades in Canada Scout-Guide Week has been recognized.

Mayor Smith took time to thank the many volunteers in both Scouting and Guiding who give up so much of their time to create the fun and rewarding programming for the town’s youth. “I remember how cold my toes got,” Smith said, recalling his own time as a youth winter camping in Cub Scouts. “What I remember a lot more was how much fun I had in Cubs and how much it taught me” and he expressed his hope that youth today have just as much fun in Scouting and Guiding.
