MLA makes opposition to proposed Bala Falls hydro plant known

The Muskoka Lakes Association (MLA) has made its opposition to the proposed hydroelectric plant at Bala Falls known. In a recent resolution, the MLA confirmed its position that Swift River Energy Limited’s (SREL) proposal to build the plant at Bala Falls is an “inappropriate and disruptive use” for the businesses, residents, tourists and cottagers of Bala and the larger cottage area of Muskoka.

The MLA also says the power potentially generated from this facility isn’t needed. The Bala Falls issue is being addressed again Tuesday night when Wahta First Nations Chief Phillip Franks and Muskoka activist Peggy Peterson appear as delegations before council.
